Following this guide could possibly save your life or the lives of the ones you love. Being prepared is key, it doesn’t take much and if you do it gradually and steadily and store it the way you should, it does not cost much more than your regular grocery bill. You are stocking things you can normally use and rotating them before they expire.

 Get Started Here

Immediately after an emergency, essential services may be cut off and local disaster relief or government responders may not be able to reach you right away. Even if they could reach you, knowing what to do to protect yourself and your household is essential.

What I am going to lay out for you here is no different than any other prepper or agency will tell you. In fact, you will notice they all align with each other. This should prove it is a well-thought-out plan and really works.

One of the most important steps you can take in preparing for emergencies is to develop a plan.

If you are not sure where to start, I am glad to help you with Your Survival Plan.

Here is a list of links to help guide you in the right direction preparing for the first 72 hours.

  1. Tote for Storage, I use two of these and have a family of five.
  2. Jug for Water Storage, this is for consumption only. You need 3 gallons/person/day.
  3. I recommend having water purification just in case you need it. LifeStraws are awesome!
  4. You should have a seperate First Aid Kit too.

I recommend you get two of the first tab and one of the second at a minimum. I have put in some other options to make it more flexible for you to do a little at a time if you don’t want to spend all at once. I get it! Once you have these few items and the free guide Not By Water Alone you will be on your way to prepping. You can get that by filling out the form at the bottom of this page. Then check back in occasionally to look for more updates.

Powerless Tools For When Disaster Strikes

As mentioned in the post Powerless Tools For When There Is No Power here is where you can find all of the classic hand tools you should have on hand for when the event arises. Having these hand tools will allow you to perform most of the DIY projects with less difficulty and make your surviving more tolerable.

Here is a cool Multi-Tool Kit too!

Bug Out Bag ChecklistFree Offer

Here is where to start your bug out bag. If you haven’t read my post Build A Bug Out Bag you can click on the link. This is where I have explained the Why, How, and What you need. If you want to read this article, you will see why I have all of these things here in one place for you to gather.

Some of the things I have given a few choices, obviously it is up to you to pick what you want in your bag. Whether it is budget or the fact you just want the best of the best. There are some things I would suggest spending a bit more money on because you don’t want the cheap stuff if it will keep you alive.

If you fulfill this checklist, you will have some duplicate items, this is intentional. You may use up or lose items that are critical. The goal is not to have a bunch of the same stuff but more than one way to accomplish the same thing. Like two ways to start a fire or light your campsite.

The Bug Out Bag Get List

I understand this is a lot to take in at once. If you did it will set you back about $1,800.00. There are a few things in here you could cheapen up on but I do not recommend that. You can do this a little at a time and it is more budget-friendly. The most expensive thing on the list is about $200.00. Most of the items are $60.00 and below.

If organized and packed properly, you can grab this bag and go in an instant. With under 40 items, it would allow you to survive in the wilderness for a minimum of 4 weeks. If you have a plan it could be much longer. We haven’t even discussed a bug out vehicle, or bug out location as part of the plan yet.

As you can see, these are all Amazon links, I will receive a small commission to help continue my efforts but this will not cost you any more than if you went direct. Please, Help yourself be prepared and help me continue to inform others how to be ready before they have to be ready!

  1. Haha thanks for the article my guy! I actually found this article really useful, as it’s definitely been my #1 priority search on Google. I have a home myself, and I get really worried thinking about all the bad things that could happen. Whether it’s from natural disasters of just negligence, I want to avoid anything bad from happening. This certainly helps!

    • Hello Jongabriel,

Even if nothing ever happens, I am always more at ease just knowing that I am prepared. I understand your anxiety about owning a home and worrying about what might happen.

I hope the information you have found helps you get prepared for whatever may or may not happen. If you do catch the bug, like me, and can’t stop prepping just remember with a home you have a  place to bug in. Whenever possible this is a safer alternative to bugging out.

In the event, something does go really bad you should be prepared to bug out also although this is the last resort. If you are interested you should check out Build a Bug Out Bag.

      Thanks for the comment,

      Chad

  2. You know, the “you used really is applicable to so much in life. It is such a powerful quote. For example for investors, it doesn’t matter where they start, all that matters is that you they start right now because if they don’t they will be missing out on huge gains in profits. I appreciate this very informative article and all the information you have provided

    • Hi Misael,

I consider this an investment. What I have done myself, I consider an investment in my family’s safety. just like financing, if you don’t do this now, you will not have it in the future. One has to think ahead to be prepared if you are going to be ready before you have to be.

      Good luck to you!

  3. This actually a very informative post and it is so thorough and all the tools I need for an emergency are right here for us to prep for any situation!!!

Honestly, the only survival tool I have in case of emergencies is a small flashlight. Most of us never really consider the possibility of something happening that will prevent us from surviving we often take it for granted because everything is now technological.

    • Hey JC,

I am glad you liked the site! If you are only prepared with a small flashlight, I am assuming you have not put any serious thought into surviving a real emergency. If you are interested in learning what you need to know to be ready before you have to be, click the link and get your free guide here.

  4. I think what happened to Texas 2 weeks ago made all of us want to be prepared for just in case of any natural disaster. Oh wow, you really have thought about all the essentials. I am just going to slowly buy it from the list and build my bug out bag. I am sure this bag will be useful in the future. Thanks for sharing the information.
